Global engineering, architecture, and consulting firm Stantec has made four strategic hires to grow its Buildings Engineering practice, expanding critical service offerings across California. In Irvine, California Hua Yan will provide principal leadership, while Viral Shah has joined the team as a senior mechanical engineer. In the San Francisco Bay area, Hamid Matinpour and Brian Hsu bring years of senior project and technical leadership.

With nearly three decades of experience, Hua Yan brings key technical depth as Stantec continues to grow its Southern California engineering practice. Yan has led electrical engineering efforts for large-scale, award-winning projects in healthcare, energy, aviation, education, and government facilities across the United States and in China. With projects ranging from $900 million design-builds for LAX to $500 million OSHPD 4 projects and complex system replacements, he brings extensive experience in designing electrical, lighting, and special systems. Hua is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Illuminating Engineering Society, and Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI), is a registered professional engineer in California and Arizona, and is a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) through BICSI.

Viral Shah has extensive experience in various healthcare and commercial projects in the mechanical and plumbing space, helping to coordinate design delivery alongside architectural teams. He previously helped deliver multiple projects at the Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center including schematic design of the new hospital tower. Viral graduated from San Jose State University with a master’s in mechanical engineering and is a registered professional mechanical engineer in California.

Hamid Matinpour joins the firm as a senior associate with strong electrical healthcare-related experience and will bolster a growing electrical team within the Buildings Engineering practice. Hamid brings an extensive design background, with 25 years of experience in hands-on field and construction work on both healthcare and non-healthcare projects across the greater Bay Area. He’s managed multibillion-dollar and multidiscipline projects, is certified through the International Code Council, and is a member of the Northern California Chapter of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors.

Also joining Stantec as an associate in the San Francisco office is Brian Hsu. He brings versatile experience in electrical engineering and has designed complex systems for clients in the commercial, residential, education, and healthcare spaces. He has played an instrumental role in successful project delivery for clients across California. Brian is also a registered professional electrical engineer in California.

“As we continue to expand our Buildings Engineering practice across California, we’re thrilled to welcome Hua, Viral, Hamid, and Brian to our growing community,” said Jeff Hankin, Stantec senior principal and Buildings Engineering practice leader. “Their collective expertise, including experience working with California’s Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) design and construction guidelines, will enhance our team’s capabilities across California and the greater Pacific Region to deliver high value to our clients and our communities.”
