Stantec, Baird launch Mentor-Protégé Joint-Venture partnership

U.S. Small Business Administration-approved partnership creates platform for unparalleled team opportunities and growth

12/15/2021 EDMONTON, AB; NEW YORK, NY TSX, NYSE:STN

Global design and engineering firm Stantec announced that it has established a Mentor-Protégé Joint-Venture (JV) partnership with Baird, a trusted expert in river, marine, and coastal engineering and science worldwide. Approved by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), this partnership unites two firms with similar values, complementary services, and an established history of collaboration to provide clients with an unmatched team for complex project support.

“With a longstanding focus on waterfront, marine and coastal engineering project services, Baird delivers a perfect complement to Stantec’s planning and heavy civil infrastructure capabilities,” said Chris Williams, senior vice president for Stantec’s U.S. Federal Program. “This partnership enhances both of our strengths, allowing us to jointly grow our federal portfolio, better serve our key federal clients, and successfully support an expanded reach for this exceptional small business.”

Stantec (Mentor) has partnered with Baird (Protégé) as part of a six-year agreement. The JV partnership builds on a successful track record of project collaboration over the past two decades. Baird has supported Stantec on several past and ongoing projects, including work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Louis, Vicksburg, New Orleans, Jacksonville, and Baltimore Districts. Stantec has supported Baird on USACE MATOCs with the Baltimore and Detroit Districts.

“Baird and Stantec have been working together on water-related projects for more than 25 years and we are excited to continue to expand our work with U.S. Federal agencies worldwide under the Mentor-Protégé program,” stated Baird CEO Kevin Macintosh.

Baird has worked exclusively “where water meets land” in river, estuary and coastal environments for 40 years. The team of scientists, engineers, and designers undertake projects ranging in size from small planning studies to designs of large marine infrastructure projects. The employee-owned firm unites approximately 100 employees across 11 offices worldwide.

Stantec holds a more than 60-year history supporting the United States federal government in building a secure and sustainable nation. The team’s expertise spans defense, infrastructure, security, and health care projects within a diverse range of communities.

The SBA’s Mentor-Protégé program aims to provide small businesses (protégés) with business development guidance and support. Mentors provide protégés with assistance in areas ranging from internal business management systems and marketing to performance process and strategic planning. Such partnerships also allow for greater federal contract opportunities for the united firms, with the JV arrangement allowing clients to access the Baird-Stantec JV as an SBA approved small business.
