Stantec joins Workplace Pride, the International Platform for LGBTIQ+ Inclusion at Work

Firm continues its efforts to foster an inclusive work environment

06/01/2021 EDMONTON, AB; NEW YORK, NY TSX, NYSE:STN

As Pride Month celebrations kick off around the world, leading global design firm Stantec has joined Workplace Pride, the International Platform for LGBTIQ+ Inclusion at Work, to further monitor and benchmark its inclusion and diversity efforts. Based in Amsterdam, Workplace Pride is a non-profit organization and corporate advisor dedicated to pushing the boundaries of LGBTIQ+ inclusion in the workplace through awareness, measurement, research, training, and network building. Its 50+ global members include Microsoft, IKEA, Unilever, FedEx, Lego, Accenture, and IBM.

“At Stantec, we work hard to foster an environment where everyone can be their whole self, so that we can all contribute to our culture of creativity, opportunity, and innovation,” said Asifa Samji, Stantec’s Chief Human Resources Officer. “Joining Workplace Pride offers us an opportunity to learn from a leading organization in LGBTIQ+ inclusion, as well as its global members, to assess and elevate our own efforts.”

A hallmark offering of Workplace Pride is its annual Global Benchmark, which was first released in 2014 to allow participating firms to track their progress in workplace inclusion efforts. It was developed with the support of the University of Leiden and major employers and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from several different countries. Stantec will begin participating in the Benchmark this year.

Championing inclusion throughout the organization
Stantec participates in a number of LGBTIQ+ groups across the world, including Pride at Work Canada, Stonewall (United Kingdom), and Rainbow Tick (New Zealand). The Pride@Stantec employee resource group (ERG) is open to all employees and offers a safe and supportive space for LGBTIQ+ colleagues and allies. The ERG also provides opportunities for education, career development, community impact, and adding client value. Its first chapter was established in 2017 in the Edmonton office and it now counts ten chapters around the world.
