03/04/2021 EDMONTON, AB; NEW YORK, NY TSX, NYSE:STN

Leading global design firm Stantec has been named to the Forbes World’s Best Employers in 2020 list, ranking fifth in the Professional Services category. The annual ranking, which recognizes 750 multinational and large corporations across a range of industry categories, elevates Stantec to the top 20 percent for public/industry perception and in the top 40 percent of direct recommendations from its employee respondents. The list is compiled by Forbes and Statista, a leading statistics and industry ranking provider, using survey responses from over 160,000 workers across 58 countries.

“It’s an incredible honor to be named to the Forbes World’s Best Employers list as it reflects our ongoing commitment to put our people first,” said Asifa Samji, Stantec’s Chief Human Resources Officer. “This award is a testament to our 22,000 employees around the globe who come together to create what couldn’t be done alone. From healthier hospitals and smarter schools, to safer roadways and more resilient waterways, improving communities around the world is our passion. And when the communities around us thrive, our own people thrive, too.”

Forbes and Statista conducted the independent survey last year, analyzing over five million data points based on responses from employees working for multinational companies and institutions. The survey consisted of two parts: direct recommendations, where participants were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers; and indirect recommendations, where participants were prompted to evaluate other employers in their respective industries and locations. Participants were asked to rate employers according to various topics such as COVID-19 response, trust, gender equality, corporate social responsibility, culture, and benefits.

A commitment toward a more sustainable future
The Forbes recognition is one in a series of recent company milestones related to sustainability.

In January, Stantec was named the fifth most sustainable company in the world and first in North America by Corporate Knights.

In regards to emissions management, last month, Stantec pledged to carbon neutrality by 2022 as a first step in achieving net zero operations by 2030 across its entire global footprint. This furthers efforts around climate leadership as reflected by CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) awarding the company its technical classification of A- for the third year in a row, making Stantec the only engineering and design firm in the industry to earn an A- rating for the last three consecutive years.

From an equity standpoint, the company was also named by Forbes as one of America’s Best Employers for Women and one of Canada’s Best Employers, as well as recognized on the 2021 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index. Additionally, Stantec recently launched the Stantec Equity & Diversity Scholarship to provide people in historically underrepresented and Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC) groups with financial aid, contributing to the creation of a critical mass of talented students that will fully represent the industry.
