Stantec to help Tampa Bay Water increase potable water supply for Hillsborough County

The pipeline expansion will meet the growing demands for the county’s South-Central service area

08/17/2021 TAMPA, FL TSX, NYSE:STN

Tampa Bay Water has selected leading global design firm Stantec to design Pipeline B for the Southern Hillsborough County Supply Expansion Pipeline. The project will meet the growing demand for potable water in the county’s South-Central service area. Stantec will provide design and permitting services for Pipeline B, as well as engineering services during construction.

Since 2010, Hillsborough County has experienced a population growth of more than 22 percent, according to the U.S. Census data. The Tampa Bay Economic Development Council estimates the county will grow by an additional 8.7 percent by 2024. The Southern Hillsborough County Supply Expansion Pipeline will help meet the potable water needs that coincide with this growth.

The completed pipeline project will run approximately 25 miles and consist of at least 60-inch diameter pipes, which will pass through urban and rural corridors. This includes crossing a river, railroad, and state and county freeways and road intersections. Pipeline B will span 8 miles, connecting the Lithia Water Treatment Plant to a new point of connection in South Hillsborough County, increasing the conveyance to the area. In the first phase of the project, Stantec will perform a route study to determine the most feasible path for the pipeline and prepare a basis of design report that will include preliminary designs. Subsequent phases will include completing the final designs and engineering services during construction.

“Water pipelines like this are the arteries of our daily lives and allow water to transmitted large distances from the source benefiting a greater number of people. As part of our goals, we plan to coordinate closely with Tampa Bay Water and Hillsborough County departments, other utilities, and the community to ensure our work provides the greatest value for years to come,” said Jarah Parke, senior project manager at Stantec. “We’re excited to work with Tampa Bay Water to deliver this vital project for Hillsborough County residents.”

Stantec has a long history of providing engineering services for Tampa Bay Water and Hillsborough County. In 2009, the firm served as the engineer of record for the Tampa Bay Water System Configuration 2 Pumping Station Expansions Project, which included the expansion of four major pumping facilities in the Tampa Bay Water Enhanced Surface Water System. The pumping stations expanded included the Tampa Bypass Canal Pump Station increasing flow from 138 million gallons per day (mgd) to 258 mgd, High Service Pump Station at the Regional Facility Site (120 mgd to 160 mgd), Repump Station at the Regional Facility Site (128 mgd to 180 mgd), and Cypress Creek Pump Station (150 mgd to 170 mgd).
