Stantec to support socio-economic development of Turkish Trakya region

Project to improve process and energy efficiency and promote efficiency-oriented production with small and medium-sized enterprises in the manufacturing industry

The European Commission has contracted Stantec to provide technical support for the Productive SMEs of Trakya Region project, which is aimed at improving process and energy efficiency of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and to promote an efficiency-oriented production in the manufacturing industry in the Trakya region.

The Trakya region is in the westernmost part of Turkey, and consists of three provinces, Tekirdag, Kirklareli, and Edirne, located on the European continent west of Istanbul. The region is one of the leading economic areas of the country, with over 3,100 SMEs in the manufacturing sector, working in machinery, electrical home appliances, electronics, food, textile and clothing, automotive, chemicals, plastics, and rubber.

The European Commission’s project is part of Turkey’s Pre-Accession Assistance to the European Union, and is composed of two pillars: increasing knowledge and awareness on process and energy efficiency of SMEs, and developing cooperation among regional relevant stakeholders. As part of this contract, Stantec will build and launch a virtual collaboration platform to help improve the efficiency and competitiveness of SMEs in the region. The team will prepare and implement a promotional campaign and launch event to raise awareness and improve knowledge of energy efficiency throughout the region. Stantec will also carry out various types of analysis and provide consultancy to build capacity of SMEs in process and energy efficiency.

“Our team brings a longstanding passion and experience in working with businesses to improve energy efficiency and it is an honor to continue this mission in such a vital region to Turkey’s economy,” said Dr. Murat Sarioglu, Operations Director for Stantec in Turkey. “We look forward to leveraging our experience from energy efficiency projects across the country to help bring down energy consumption in the Trakya region and decrease environmental impacts, while improving business processes to reduce inefficiencies and support the region’s economic vitality.”

Stantec is a leading energy engineering consulting firm in the Turkish market. Over the past 10 years, Stantec has been responsible for the implementation of the country’s main sustainable energy credit lines of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD): Turkey Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (TurSEFF), Turkey Mid-size Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (MidSEFF), and Turkey Residential Energy Efficiency Financing Facility (TuREEFF). The aim of these financing facilities is to support the Turkish economy and community in developing green energy initiatives, reducing high energy intensity and production costs, and decreasing GHG emissions and overall energy dependence.
