Sydney’s Tattersalls Club is set to get a new lease on life

Merging old and new, the redevelopment will rejuvenate the club and see a new 50-storey mixed-use establishment with exquisite parkland views.

Sydney's iconic 125-year-old City Tattersalls club is set to receive its biggest overhaul yet. A 50-storey redevelopment has been given the green light, adding to the city's skyline. The club will retain its existing façade, paving the way for the historic venue to enjoy a new lease on life while retaining the historic look and feel of the building.

This project will strike a fine balance between old and new. The modern tower will be surrounded by glittering glass, overlooking the heritage listed Hyde Park. The 142-metre structure will be home to 241 luxury residential apartments, 101 hotel rooms, and boast new restaurants and bars. Maintaining the historical integrity of this building is at the top of the list meaning that while the facilities will receive a contemporary upgrade, some of the features will remain and be fully restored.

Our Stantec team will deliver specialist fire protection, hydraulic, and acoustic services. ‘It's an important building to the community and being part of the team that revitalises this site will be challenging and rewarding at the same time.' says Ben James, Stantec Director, Infrastructure Section Manager.

We're excited to restore the integrity of this site, however this is complicated says Stantec global acoustics leader, Olivier Gaussen. ‘Integrating natural ventilations through the curved, complex façade while meeting the ventilation NCC requirements within the plenums themselves, is something which hasn’t been done before’. Olivier explains the new tower is like a typical new building, but starting at level 15, on top of three existing buildings. ‘The refurbishment of the club is challenging because it’s a heritage space, making this an interesting challenge’, says Olivier.

Stantec brings extensive mixed-use building experience in Sydney and beyond. Recent projects include

183-185 Clarence Street, leading the way for heritage redevelopment, and 4-6 Bligh Street, among others. Learn more about Stantec’s Sydney design practice and expertise.
