American Indian Science and Engineering Society awards Stantec for support of STEM education, careers

2022 Corporate Partner Service Award reflects firm’s commitment to diversity

The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) recently awarded Stantec—a global leader in sustainable design and engineering—with its 2022 Corporate Partner Service Award. The award was presented Saturday, October 8, at the AISES National Conference at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

The AISES Partner Service Award winners are selected by the AISES staff to honor those who provide exceptional support the AISES’ staff and the organization. One award winner is selected in each of the following categories: Corporate Partner Service Award, Government Partner Service Award, Nonprofit Partner Service Award, Tribal Partner Service Award, Educator Partner Service Award, and Foundation Partner Service Award.

Strategic partners are an important part of the AISES mission. Partners enhance and promote science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education and careers. They also foster continued growth AISES.

“This award reflects on the effort Stantec puts into supporting AISES and its mission to create an inclusive STEM work environment,” said Adam Leggett, Stantec’s Alaska Native program manager, who accepted the award for the firm. “Personally, I find partnering with AISES to focus on advancing Indigenous education and work opportunities inspirational and rewarding.”

Earlier this year, AISES recognized Stantec as one of the Top 50 STEM Workplaces for Indigenous STEM Professionals. AISES released its listing in the Spring 2022 issue of Winds of Change, the organization’s national magazine. The magazine focuses on advancement for Indigenous Peoples of North America and the Pacific Islands in STEM studies and careers.

Firms selected for the AISES Top 50 list are required to meet a list of criteria, including:

  • Diversity recruitment efforts
  • Recruiting for jobs in the STEM fields
  • Actively recruiting within Indigenous audiences
  • Sustained support of the AISES mission

Stantec continues to strengthen its connections to Indigenous communities and find new ways to make meaningful contributions by supporting local initiatives and collaborating with local and national Indigenous organizations.
