Stantec’s Equity & Diversity Scholarship now accepting applications

Program supports historically underrepresented students pursuing STEAM education

09/01/2022 EDMONTON, AB; NEW YORK, NY TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has launched its third annual Stantec Equity & Diversity Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will support future industry leaders and innovators who are from historically underrepresented groups pursuing science, technology, engineer, arts/architecture, and math (STEAM) fields.

“Stantec’s Equity and Diversity Scholarship Fund is a great way to not only provide students with meaningful experience in their respective fields, but also a great opportunity for Stantec to benefit from their diverse ideas, perspectives, and experiences,” says chief executive officer, Gord Johnston. “This program is a great example of Stantec finding meaningful ways to make a real impact on a generation that is going to shape our industry, and our future.”

Stantec will award $200,000 (CAD) in global scholarships for the upcoming annual academic year (2023-2024) as well as opportunities for more than 20 paid internships in 2023. The Equity & Diversity Scholarship is part of Stantec’s broader commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion within the Company, and is an example of the firm’s initiatives aimed at supporting members of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, veterans, and first-generation college students who are exploring a STEAM related education. In 2022, Stantec awarded 41 scholarships and 10 internships to students in locations across the world, that included Canada, the United States, India, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

“This scholarship has allowed me to focus more on my studies and artwork rather than how I’m going to pay for college, and I learned so much over the eight weeks of my internship,” says Emerson Harman, 2022 intern and scholarship recipient. “During my time at Stantec, I attended as many of the intern programs as I could, ranging from corporate sustainability to model-based design. I used new programs for the projects I worked on which I might now be able to apply to my work going forward. I am honored to have been selected for both the scholarship and the internship!”

To be eligible for this award, applicants must be enrolled in a college, university, or post-secondary institution in the 2023-24 academic year. For more information about the Stantec Equity & Diversity Scholarship and to begin the application process, visit stantec.com/equityanddiversityscholarship. An independent selection committee will evaluate the complete applications and select recipients considering educational goals, community service and leadership through extracurricular activities and overall career ambitions. The deadline to apply is October 14, 2022. Scholarships will be awarded in February 2023 and internships will be interviewed in 2022.

To support employees and their families worldwide, the Company also offers a scholarship program for dependents of employees, open to students enrolled in a college, university, or post-secondary institution as a second year/sophomore or above. Both scholarship programs are administered by International Scholarship and Tuition Services, Inc. (ISTS), an independent company that specializes in managing sponsored educational assistance programs. For each, ISTS hosts the online application processes in English and French Canadian, responds to applicant inquiries, selects recipients, and disburses awards.
