Stantec welcomes two behavioral health experts to its Buildings practice

Jon Sell and Stephen Parker will support the firm’s ongoing investment in creating transformational care environments

01/28/2022 PHILADELPHIA, PA TSX, NYSE:STN

Global integrated design firm Stantec welcomes Jon Sell and Stephen Parker as behavioral health subject matter experts in the firm’s Buildings practice. Based in Philadelphia and Washington, DC respectively, each will be responsible for supporting Stantec’s ongoing investment in creating behavioral health environments that support healing, social interaction, and safe transitions back into the community—normalizing behavioral health and addictions care.

Sell joins Stantec as a principal and senior medical planner. He is an experienced healthcare designer with more than two decades of expertise improving the design and functionality of large-scale behavioral health spaces. He has demonstrated success at using design as a catalyst to improve the delivery of behavioral healthcare for private, public, and government clients nationwide. Sell’s project experience includes Northwell Health’s Zucker Hillside Hospital, Delaware Psychiatric Center’s Replacement Hospital, and the Security Forces Medical Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Temple University and is equally engaged in mentoring the next generation of behavioral healthcare designers.

A new senior associate and senior medical planner for Stantec, Parker is a believer in “architect as advocate” for colleague, client, and community alike. His leadership efforts earned him the AIA Young Architects Award in 2018 and in 2019 he became the youngest licensed architect elected to the AIA Strategic Council. Parker brings expertise gained through collaborations with the US Department of Veterans Affairs for its Inpatient Mental Health Design Guide, Kaiser Permanente’s first Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinic on the East Coast, and the new Adilabad Community Hospital in Central India.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Clemson University and a Master of Architecture from University of Maryland with a focus in healthcare design. In addition, Parker recently served as co-chair for the AIA Strategic Council’s Mental Health + Architecture Incubator.
