The European Commission has selected global design firm Stantec to support the development and management of a knowledge hub dedicated to Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI), space and earth observation, and digital development. Known as the Knowledge Hub Digital (KHD), the facility aims to boost international cooperation and enhance knowledge sharing in digitalization, in line with the global ambition of the European Union (EU) to promote a fair, inclusive, gender-responsive, sustainable, and human-centric digital transformation worldwide.

The contract, which covers the period from 2023 to 2026, calls on Stantec’s EU and International Development team in Belgium to provide highly specialized knowledge and technical assistance during the creation and development of the knowledge hub. Experts on information and communications technology (ICT), digital innovation, entrepreneurship, digital governance, and digital ecosystem analyses and planning will contribute to the project. The team will also facilitate the EU’s partnership with other countries and promote stronger collaboration in the STI, space, and digital sectors. The assignment involves conducting studies on latest digital technologies and solutions, providing policy advice, organizing policy dialogues, and contributing to strategy development and capacity building. Technical support will also be provided in knowledge management, policy dissemination, and overall project management and monitoring.

“This project aligns with Stantec’s mission to promote and enable sustainable development and resilience. Digital technologies have the power to improve resource efficiency, reduce environmental and climate impacts, and accelerate the green transition,” said Christophe Leroy, Operations Director and Climate Solutions Leader at Stantec. “The Knowledge Hub Digital will bring together communities of stakeholders who are shaping today’s digital ecosystems. It will serve as a venue for sharing knowledge and co-creating digital solutions to current sustainability challenges.”

Stantec’s Belgium unit manages EU-funded projects dedicated to sustainable development in countries within and outside Europe. The team is currently working on several EU initiatives related to the digital transition.

“We are deeply honored to have another opportunity to help bring about the EU’s vision of a digital transformation that connects communities everywhere, respects fundamental rights, and contributes to sustainability,” said Project Director Anca Andreescu.
