Stantec to design a mixed-use development for Main Street in the City of Pleasanton, Texas

Known as the “birthplace of the cowboy,” the heart of the city will be transformed into a central multiuse town connector

03/11/2024 PLEASANTON, TX TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has been selected to provide planning and integrated design services for the redevelopment of the City of Pleasanton’s Main Street. The 22-acre, mixed-use development will convert a former elementary school campus into a multifunctional development to serve as a central hub for the city, addressing long-term population growth and resiliency.

“It is exciting to see how this project has evolved from its initial concept to what it is now. It has taken years of planning and searching for funding sources, but I believe this project will provide everything our community has been waiting for,” said Johnny Huizar, Pleasanton city manager. “It will include housing, retail shops, a business center, office space, and a parking garage. This is just Phase I, and there’s more to come.”

A community hub for all ages
Set in a series of public spaces that will offer an authentic Texan experience, Main Street will appeal to families of all ages in the Pleasanton community. This development will provide an adaptive reuse of several existing site components including an original gymnasium scheduled to become an event space and live music venue.

Providing a place for the community to live, connect, and play, the redevelopment will add 200 units of multi-family apartments spread over three buildings, retail and office spaces, and ample parking. The apartment building will offer both affordable and market-rate housing units, allowing more people the ability to live where they work as the area continues to grow. The retail space will support local entrepreneurs by providing a space for every level of advancement, ranging from pop-ups to storefronts.

“Affectionately referred to as the birthplace of the cowboy, Pleasanton is entering into a rebirth that will create a vibrant downtown core and appeal to the ever-growing next generation of residents in the area, while retaining its downtown historic character,” said Eduardo Garcia, principal at Stantec. “Our team will create a place of synergy to deliver an experience that helps current residents prosper while attracting visitors from surrounding areas.”

Stantec will provide integrated architecture, engineering, and landscape architecture services for the redevelopment. The firm has been instrumental in the City of Pleasanton’s revitalization, providing master plan services for the city and engaging with the community for its feedback. These insights will be applied in the conceptual planning phase to create a meaningful downtown development.

Construction is expected to begin in fall 2024.
