AISES recognition bolsters Stantec’s strong commitment to Indigenous partnerships

The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) has recognized Stantec as one of the Top 50 Workplaces for Indigenous STEM Professionals for the fifth consecutive year. The organization released its annual ranking in the Spring 2024 issue of Winds of Change, its digital and print publication focused on the advancement of Indigenous peoples in STEM. Firms selected for the AISES Top 50 are required to meet a list of criteria, including diverse recruitment efforts and current employee demographics and metrics.

Each year, companies included on the list are evaluated across various metrics including performance, recruitment, and alignment with our AISES values. Stantec’s support is critical to helping us deliver world-class talent that the global community needs and deserves.”
In the past two years, Stantec has strengthened its long-standing partnership with AISES by increasing participation alongside AISES’ growth in Canada, as well as within different parts of the AISES organization. In early 2024, Stantec participated in the second annual AISES in Canada National Gathering as a gold sponsor and is actively involved in AISES’ Corporate Advisory Council, Professional Development Committee, and local professional chapters. The company is also attending and sponsoring four regional conferences and the national conference taking place in San Antonio, Texas, in October.
“AISES has always held a special place in my heart,” said Celeste James, a member of the environmental sciences engineering staff at Stantec and active participant of the AISES Phoenix Professionals Chapter. “I’m proud of the way that I began my career at Stantec. By participating in the career fair at the 2004 AISES National Conference in Anchorage, Alaska, I was able to network and earn an internship. I am grateful that I was given that opportunity, and I am hopeful that many successful careers have also been created in this way. STEM careers are particularly important to our growing communities and play a significant role in caring for and protecting Mother Earth. My civil engineering degree combined with Stantec’s diverse business model has led to the pleasure of working in several different disciplines. I look forward to seeing how the partnership between AISES and Stantec will continue in the future.”
Stantec is proud of its internship program, which provides opportunities for students to work on both current and case study projects for recent clients, such as the Kenaitze Indian Tribe in Alaska, as well as personal development workshops that support career readiness.
