Stantec names leader to advance design computing

Focused on the firm’s new expanded integration of computation and design

Global integrated design firm Stantec has promoted Brendan Mullins to lead design computing for its Buildings practice. He will help develop and implement the transformational integration of computation into the firm’s design process.

As design computing discipline leader, Mullins will set the vision and strategy for advancing design computing across the Buildings practice, including the integration of computational design, parametric design, generative design, and artificial intelligence tools.

Collaborating with Stantec’s Buildings leadership, innovation, and digital practice teams, Mullins will help determine technologies that enhance project design and documentation. He will create a road map for training and professional development to advance the firm’s transformational design practice through digital tools and processes at the studio level.

An innovative architect and technologist with 11 years at Stantec, Mullins previously held the role of region digital delivery lead. He has also worked on some of the firm’s most prestigious and complex projects, including the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, Cleveland Clinic Cancer Building, and San Ysidro Land Port of Entry.

Mullins is instrumental in driving digital design strategy, educating on industry trends, and contributing to project pursuits. He has also presented his work at numerous conferences and publications, and managed research grants to study virtual reality, augmented reality, and extended reality.

“Passionate about learning new tools and building them, Brendan is always eager to share his knowledge and mentor others,” said Leonard Castro, executive vice president for Buildings at Stantec. “In this new role, he will be a changemaker as Brendan’s expertise and creativity will lead us to new heights of design excellence and innovation.”
