Stantec’s new contracts support resilient seaport development in Southern California

The firm will drive sustainable port development in a region vital to economic growth

12/12/2025 SAN DIEGO, CA TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has recently been awarded several significant contracts with major seaports across Southern California, reinforcing the firm’s expanding influence and commitment to infrastructure excellence in one of the nation’s most economically vital regions.

California is home to 11 major commercial ports, which handle 38 percent of all US containerized imports and 28 percent of exports.

Strategic wins across key ports
Stantec’s recent contract awards span three of Southern California’s most influential ports, each representing a critical step in advancing sustainable and resilient infrastructure across the region.

At the Port of San Diego, Stantec will provide on-call environmental review, master planning, and urban design consulting services for projects and initiatives on tidelands, submerged lands, and uplands around San Diego Bay. These efforts will support the Port’s long-term vision for a more accessible, sustainable, and economically vibrant waterfront, which spans 34 miles.

For the Port of Long Beach, Stantec has been selected under an on-call contract to deliver CEQA/NEPA quality assurance and quality control services. These services will support the Port’s goals of modernizing infrastructure while advancing environmental stewardship and community engagement.

At the Port of Los Angeles, Stantec has been selected for two on-call agreements. The first will provide environmental review documentation preparation and environmental services. Work will include preparing CEQA/NEPA documentation and supporting technical studies to assist Port of Los Angeles in meeting environmental compliance requirements and initiatives at one of the busiest seaports in the US. The second agreement will provide engineering and architectural services for the Port’s Capital and Maintenance Improvement Programs, supporting the delivery of innovative infrastructure solutions that enhance sustainability, operational efficiency, and resilience.

“Southern California’s ports are not only gateways to global trade, they’re engines of local opportunity and innovation,” said Brianna Pilkinton, senior principal and business center operations leader at Stantec. “These opportunities are a testament to our team’s deep understanding of the region’s unique challenges. We’re proud to support the economic vitality of the region through sustainable, forward-thinking solutions.”

These wins come at a time of rapid investment in Southern California’s port infrastructure, driven by the need to address climate impacts, supply chain modernization, efficiency, and community-centered development. Stantec’s growing portfolio in the region reflects its multidisciplinary experience and trusted partnerships with port authorities to deliver resilient, future-ready infrastructure.
