Program empowers businesses, communities, educators, and young people across Europe to advance ocean literacy and a sustainable blue economy

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has been selected by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) to lead the next phase of the EU4Ocean Coalition for Ocean Literacy. Stantec’s role will focus on community engagement and communication services, delivered in collaboration with the European Commission’s Directorate‑General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE).
The EU4Ocean Coalition is the European Union’s (EU) flagship initiative on ocean literacy. It brings together a growing community of organisations and individuals to strengthen public understanding of how the ocean supports life on Earth, how human activities affect marine ecosystems, and how informed decisions can drive a sustainable blue economy. This new contract will support the implementation of the European Ocean Pact, the EU’s comprehensive strategy to protect the ocean, boost the blue economy, and enhance the well-being of coastal communities.
Building on Stantec’s track record with the EU
The EU4Ocean Coalition builds on Stantec’s track record in marine, coastal, and blue economy projects across Europe and beyond, including environmental consulting, coastal resilience, and nature‑based solutions assignments that support communities facing climate impacts and changing ocean conditions. The firm will lead a consortium that builds on previous EU4Ocean phases with capabilities in the field of ocean literacy, education, youth engagement, and industry mobilization.
The consortium, led by Stantec, will upgrade and expand the following EU4Ocean communities:
Bringing ocean literacy to classrooms
The coalition will empower teachers in member states to bring ocean education into their classrooms, give young people opportunities to become ocean ambassadors, and work with businesses to embed ocean responsibility into everyday decisions.
