Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design, engineering, and project delivery, has been selected by St. Augustine Gold & Copper Ltd. to provide study and engineering services for the Kingking Copper-Gold Project. Kingking is a major greenfield mining development in the Municipality of Pantukan, Davao de Oro Province, on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. It is one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper-gold deposits, with 960 million tonnes of reserves. Stantec will deliver integrated, pit-to-port, sustainable solutions for the estimated US$2.37-billion project.

“The St. Augustine Gold and Copper Ltd. team selected Stantec for the Definitive Feasibility Study based on their multidimensional project capability and experience, which the Kingking project requires,” said Andy Russel, Kingking project director. “We look forward to Stantec being an integral part of delivering the Kingking project on schedule and on budget.”

Mining to support a sustainable future
As a significant source of copper and gold, Kingking represents an important step toward supporting the world’s shift to low-carbon technologies and an evolving energy infrastructure.

“The Kingking project is a great example of how we bring together the best of our global experience to support our clients through the entire mining life cycle,” said Carl Kopke, regional director of Energy & Resources at Stantec. “It’s a privilege to contribute to a project of this scale and significance, and one that aligns with our commitment to sustainable development and responsible resource delivery.”

Stantec’s role on the project
Working alongside Independent Mining Consultants Ltd., Stantec will lead the delivery of the Definitive Feasibility Study, which includes:

  • Comprehensive data review and risk assessment
  • Strategic work planning and stakeholder engagement
  • Trade-off studies and definition of design parameters
  • Definitive-level engineering
  • Capital and operating cost estimation
  • Financial modelling
  • NI 43-101 reporting

Stantec will also develop the project execution plan; the engineering, procurement, and construction management bid package; and the procurement strategy for long-lead items and equipment.

Stantec’s global mining experience
Stantec brings experience from a variety of mining projects around the world. Recently, the firm helped the Antamina Mineral Company in Peru gain government approval for the Modification of the Environmental Impact Study, which will allow Antamina to optimize existing mining components within its current operational footprint. Stantec also assisted Resolution Copper Mining LLC to deliver a US$16 million feasibility study for the Resolution Copper Mine in Superior, Arizona. The proposed underground mine has the potential to be one of the largest producers of copper in North America—supplying up to 25 percent of US copper demand each year. Additionally, Stantec supported a historically significant critical minerals mining project in Ontario, Canada, as Generation PGM’s Marathon Palladium-Copper Project became the first mine in the province to receive approval through a joint review panel process.
