Spring 2011

The model construction kit “Meccano” is thought to be derived from the phrase "Make and Know". Architects and Engineers push this analogy by producing 2D drawing documents to illustrate how 3D objects are built. Inspired by this educational toy, ‘assembly required’ composes a series of red and blue ‘metal beams’ to produce a 3D image from a 2D surface. This prominently displayed info-graphic becomes a moderator representing 401 Wellington building activities and provides an opportunity to blur the lines between a graphic design and a public art piece.
