Summer 2009

Elevation juxtaposes the highest point in Ontario, the Ishpatina Ridge, with the CN Tower, in a single image painted on the wall of the window gallery. The Ishpatina Ridge is the highest point in Ontario and measures 693m. The CN Tower is the highest point in Toronto and measures 553m. The name Spadina is said to come from the Objibwa word ishapadenah which means ‘hill’ or ‘rise’. Creating a creative interplay with nature and city, inspired by the fact that these two high points differ in height by only 140m as well as the origin of the name of Spadina, Elevation is a playful and visual exploration of place and origins.
