As a contaminated sites specialist, Dr. Barfoot specializes in strategic site planning, risk assessment, vapor intrusion assessment, and risk management. Her technical expertise also extends to the management of excess soil, non-aqueous phase liquid, risk mitigation measures, stakeholder communication, and emerging contaminants—including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
Krista is a qualified person for risk assessment (per Ontario Regulation 153/04), chair of the Ontario Environmental Industry Association (ONEIA) Brownfields Committee, an ONEIA Excess Soils Sub-Committee member, and a member of the board of the Canadian Brownfields Network. She also serves on the Canadian Urban Institute’s Excess Soil Symposium Advisory Committee.
Having led the development of the strategic approach for revitalizing several large, high-profile brownfield sites in Ontario, Krista’s work has spanned the fields of chemistry, toxicology, geology, and ecology.
