Jason brings nearly 20 years of experience leading transformative initiatives that have helped communities across the United States manage growth in ways that build economic competitiveness, promote equity, and enhance livability. Growing up in Fargo, North Dakota, has allowed him to witness first-hand the impacts of a growing community, which guides his project approach. This work has ranged from large-scale comprehensive planning and civic engagement initiatives to planning for individual neighborhoods, districts, and high-profile sites.
Prominent projects in recent years include the Courthouse Square sector plan in Arlington County, Virginia; the Crescent District Form-Based Code in Leesburg, Virginia; and the comprehensive plan for the National Capital region of Washington, DC. Before moving to the Washington, DC, area, Jason served as the urban designer for Overland Park, a rapidly growing suburb of Kansas City, Missouri, where he produced the widely acclaimed Vision Metcalf Downtown Form-Based Code.
A respected thought leader with a strong interest in the full range of opportunities and challenges facing America’s suburbs, Jason recently co-edited Suburban Remix: Creating the Next Generation of Urban Places (Island Press: February 2018).
