Airports are like cities—with everything from civil infrastructure and transportation to high technology, deep security, industrial systems, and buildings systems. As an aviation architect, Rian leads our Toronto-based integrated aviation practice. He’s focused his career on airport terminal design, planning, and programming for almost 15 years, and he’s designed facilities for a full range of airport stakeholders in Canada, the US, and internationally.

In the past, Rian has worked on large expansion and enhancement programs in both Terminals 1 and 3 at Toronto Pearson International Airport, but his current focus is the total reconfiguration and enhancement of Denver International Airport’s Great Hall. His other goal? To develop an interdisciplinary airports team in Toronto as a center of excellence for airport design in North America, providing broad services to airports and airlines globally.

A leader in airport design, Rian has spoken at conferences on topics such as sustainability, the future of airports, and the passenger experience. Outside of work, He’s a family man, a DIY enthusiast, and a retired violinist. Rian’s continually improving and kitting out his workshop, and he’s particularly passionate about working with wood, which he considers a living medium.
