Andy Cook

Senior Structural Engineer

Photo of Andy

Andy is passionate about structures—and he says bridges, buildings, towers, etc. are where it’s at! In any situation, Andy will evaluate all relevant needs and select the best solution. He thinks of himself as very picky, and he believes there’s always a better answer to discover.

With close to two decades of experience, Andy has worked on a large variety of transportation infrastructure projects. His focus has been on the preliminary and final layout, analysis, and design of concrete and steel bridges, retaining walls, and culverts. His passion? Seismic design. With South Carolina being home to one of the most powerful earthquakes to hit the east coast of the US, he takes pride in designing bridges that will withstand future earthquakes in his home state.

One of his most interesting projects was the Greenway Pedestrian Bridge that spans the US 129 Bypass in Alcoa, Tennessee. The main span is supported by two concrete abutments, is 225 feet long, rises 21 feet above the highway, and is accessible by approach ramps on either end of the bridge. He loved the way the project turned out and has visited it a couple times.
