One of Don’s key responsibilities is engagement in acquisitions—due diligence, integration, and post-integration support, working with groups within the organization, and working with the people from the acquired firm. The goal? Facilitate the move to Stantec as efficiently as possible. That means managing training, systems, tools, financial, and project data.
Don is a teacher and a leader. He’s moderated the Certified Management Accountants (CMA) Strategic Leadership Program for over 14 years, and he’s taught accounting courses in post-secondary education. At Stantec, he leads the US financial team, driving growth and performance and supporting the leadership team.
Don says that his love of teaching is one of the main reasons he gets so involved in training and onboarding—and with his help, new team members can get up and running as quickly as possible. It can be difficult to manage this much change, but Don makes it his priority to show new employees that the challenges will end and that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
Since moving to Boston almost nine years ago, Don has taken up running, even competing in the Boston Marathon last year. In his words, “running is a great way to get to know the cities that we have offices in.” It’s also a great way to meet the other running employees when he’s visiting a different office.
