An advocate, planner, strategist, communicator and consultant, Darren has deep experience in a broad range of elements of transportation planning and city building and is comfortable solving problems involving complex and overlapping interactions between numerous elements as well as operational implementation.
He has dedicated his professional life to building a better Auckland and his role allows him to share his expertise with the rest of New Zealand and beyond.
Being able to make a positive difference is what drives Darren, including working on anything from large scale transit-oriented development projects and optimising local bus networks to mega projects such as light rail.
His experience is with better integrating transport and land use and balancing place and movement, applying a systems-thinking approach to networks and connectivity to understand how all the pieces fit together.
Darren is that rarest of species: a car-free native Aucklander. Outside of work he’s a travel addict, café crawler and haunts darkened arthouse cinemas. He loves learning languages—currently Māori and Russian—and spends way too much time on social media.
