LaTonya Derrick

Senior Transportation Planner

Photo of LaTonya

An environmental scientist, transportation planner, and public engagement and environmental justice specialist, LaTonya has over 25 years of professional experience.

LaTonya is currently serving as an environmental justice and public engagement specialist—she has vast knowledge in assessing social vulnerabilities as well as procedural and transportation equity. Her work on several projects has strengthened community participation in project development and mitigation planning. LaTonya works hard to build relationships, coordinate educational resources, and support informed engagement.

The ongoing I-526 Lowcountry Corridor (LCC) WEST project is one of the most rewarding projects LaTonya has worked on. It mirrors much her family’s journey losing property due to a transportation project—her parents spent years describing the absence of any outreach to residents in their neighborhood. Their stories, paired with LaTonya’s childhood experience living next to an interstate which runs parallel to a busy rail line, and her current experience living next door to her childhood home, has set up LaTonya to be more than prepared to support the residents and stakeholders that will be impacted by I-526 LCC WEST project.
