'I was raising pigs and selling plants at 11 years old," says Travis who grew up on an old dairy farm converted to a plant nursery. Growing up around plants and animals has given him a deep appreciation for natural systems. At age 16, he started his own landscaping business where he developed a passion for design and construction.
Travis has worked on a wide range of projects, both close to home and around the world. His work has brought him throughout Europe, the Middle East, China, Korea and Inner Mongolia. Travis believes constructed landscapes must at first be pragmatic to the needs of the user but strive to elicit an emotional response. His approach to design is influenced by his background in art, science, and history. Travis served as a Senior Associate at CRJA in Boston where he worked on projects with a wide range of scales. Whether international or local, his project goals are to account for the context and spirit of place to create meaningful and memorable landscapes.
