Jan has more than 30 years of broad experience in the design, evaluation, and construction of bridges, retaining walls, sign structures, and buildings. His structural experience ranges from the analysis of timber, steel, concrete, prestressed, and masonry structures to the development of asset management systems. Jan has extensive experience in the inspection and load rating of highway and rail bridges per the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS). He uses standards including the National Bridge Inventory (NBI), the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) bridge element level coding systems, and the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) standards.
His recent bridge designs include replacements and rehabilitations along the I-94 North-South Corridor, and the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Jan also enjoys providing new lives for historic bridges and is currently project manager for inspections and rehabilitation of the iconic glulam timber Keystone Wye Bridges in the Black Hills.
When not working, Jan can be found on the ski trails or traveling in Norway.
