In his final year of engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, Kevin enrolled in a class entitled “The Political and Economic Development of the Northwest Territories.” Before then, he knew little about the NWT or Canada’s Arctic. After graduating in 1987, Kevin drove to Yellowknife and set up a tent at a campground, where he stayed until it closed for the winter. He’s called Yellowknife home ever since.
Kevin has spent his career in cold regions and remote engineering consulting, working across the unique conditions of Arctic Canada. He has led technical teams and managed infrastructure projects across the North, from planning and design through project management. His experience spans buildings, surface, aviation, and marine transportation. It also includes northern fuel systems, land development, and water and sewer systems.
He has also held leadership roles with several northern, community, and industry organizations, serving as the president of Northwest Territories and Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist, the director of Engineers Canada, national chair of the Cold Regions Engineering Division of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, and the director of the Northern Territories Water & Waste Association. Kevin also currently serves as one of three Association of Consulting Engineering Companies Canada directors, representing the Northwest Territories. His contributions to the profession have also earned him recognition as a fellow of Engineers Canada and an honorary fellow of Geoscience Canada.
