Joe Lapinski

Senior Associate

Photo of Joe

Before working in building infrastructure system design, Joe designed door assemblies for a major automaker. As he put it, “it was, more or less, simple widget-making.” In the building industry, however, his engineering decisions are lasting. Joe takes pride in the fact that his decisions can impact the energy performance of a building for 30 years or more.

Throughout numerous higher education projects, Joe has applied his engineering skills to develop creative and efficient solutions for water systems and their intelligent controls. Recently, his work on the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Mary Idema Pew Library called for new engineering techniques to hit lofty energy performance goals. In this project, Joe got to do the right thing for the environment and deliver a top-notch solution for GVSU and their students.

When he’s not overcoming design challenges, Joe spends his free time cycling, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, backpacking, woodworking, and restoring his nearly 100-year-old home.
