Mel is well-known in the underground scene in Phoenix, Arizona. The underground mining scene, that is. As both a mining consultant and client, he has witnessed the evolution of Stantec’s mining group over the past 43 years. He has experience in domestic and international mine management with emphasis on supervision, safety, permitting, mine development, feasibility, contract preparation and execution, project and construction management, and policy development. The international arm of his career included experiencing life in New Zealand, Chile, South Africa, Congo, and more. All miners aspire to develop a new mine in their career’s lifetime, and Mel has had the opportunity a few times over. He was project manager for the design and startup of Stillwater mine in Montana, and Leeville and Deep Post mines in Nevada.
Outside of work, Mel is wood-working or immersed in vinyl. He and his wife have a collection of about 8,000 albums, and a real passion for old rock and roll and 60s Jazz.
