Photo of Mary

Mary has over 30 years of experience working on projects from preliminary design through commissioning and handover. She’s a mechanical engineer specializing in the planning, design, refurbishment, expansion, construction, and commissioning of water and wastewater facilities, sludge thickening/dewatering facilities, beneficial biosolids reuse, hydro-electric schemes, and dockyards. During her career, Mary has worked for town, city, contractor, utility company, and industrial (refining/mining) clients on small and large-scale capital projects.

When the Town of Taber’s consultant estimated a $28 million capital cost for a conventional design, bid, build approach for a new wastewater treatment plant, Mary and her team were able to provide an alternative. Their successful design, build, operate contract upgraded and refurbished the Town’s abandoned wastewater treatment facility at a fixed capital cost of only $15 million. The project presented several challenges including the reuse of previously decommissioned infrastructure as well as a new biological nutrient removal process train required to meet future population growth needs and the required effluent quality standards.

If she isn’t working on major capital projects, Mary might be gardening, running, swimming, or biking. Her goal is to one day compete in a triathlon, but her 1.5 acres at home keeps her plenty busy for now.
