Alexander Menaker

Senior Archaeologist

Photo of Alexander

Alex has nearly two decades of archaeological and historic research experience in all levels of survey and testing across the Americas and Caribbean. As senior archaeologist, his responsibilities include project management and communications, historic preservation quality control, and project documentation and field leadership roles in local, state, federal, and international compliance.

Central to Alex’s background in managing complex archaeological and multidisciplinary projects is his extensive experience with public engagement and collaborations with local stakeholders and descendant communities. A recent example, where he serves as co-principal investigator with the Texas Department of Transportation, involves the study of the rediscovered site of a late 19th century blacksmith shop belonging to Tom Cook, an African American freedman in Bolivar, Texas. One of the highlights for Alex is collaborating with Cook’s descendants on the excavation and continued investigation.

When he isn’t helping preserve the past, Alex enjoys being active—connecting with and exploring the world, from biking and hiking to reading and visiting museums or local hotspots.
