With 22 years of experience, Michael is a senior wildlife biologist and Stantec’s technical lead for terrestrial wildlife in Canada. He helps clients assess project impacts and implement wildlife mitigation and management plans.
While Michael’s work primarily involves birds and caribou, he has experience on projects affecting bats, bears, moose, and amphibians. Aligning with his ‘work smarter’ philosophy, Michael has led the development of several digital apps for real-time data collection. These include onLOOKer, which offers fixed-radius point count surveys for birds; BirdIT, used to manage incidental take of migratory bird nests; and RAMMT, a reptile and amphibian mitigation monitoring tool.
Michael has authored or co-authored over 150 papers and reports, given over 60 lectures and workshops, and provided consultation on wildlife and habitats to government and industry in Canada, as well as serving as an expert witness. As an avid birdwatcher, Michael has been to 21 countries (so far) and has spotted 3,240 different species.
