Joe Richards

Principal, Engineer

Photo of Joe

As a senior civil and water resources engineer, Joe firmly believes in creating space for ecological systems where biology and humanity can respectfully coexist. With three decades of US-based and international water resources engineering, project management, and civil design experience, he possesses in-depth knowledge of urbanization effects on natural systems—and has expertise in solving natural resource and infrastructure conflicts.

Currently serving as our Pacific Northwest ecosystem restoration lead, Joe focuses on dam removal, floodplain reconnection, and fish passage. Often working as a bridge between project members with different backgrounds, he’s adept at facilitating complex conversations where infrastructure, natural systems, and communities interface. He believes each project is an opportunity to weigh the needs of all stakeholders, including those without voices, to reach equitable ecological and social outcomes based on engineering, science, and regulatory pathways.

When Joe’s not focused on sustainable solutions, he enjoys snowboarding, surfing, mountain biking, flyfishing, and traveling the world with his family.
