Heather Short

Wildlife Biologist

Photo of Heather

Working with our team in Kelowna, Heather is a wildlife biologist with six years of professional and academic experience in ecological restoration, wildlife monitoring, and environmental research. Her recent work has been concentrated in the mining, and oil and gas sectors in British Columbia with a focus on caribou habitat restoration.

Heather’s experience includes developing reclamation research programs for wildlife, habitat modelling, and contributing to multiple caribou habitat restoration and offsetting plans. She’s successfully led field programs for wildlife use surveys, habitat feature assessments and remote camera monitoring. As part of Heather’s master’s research, she developed a caribou habitat restoration model to provide insight to restoration activities that could support caribou re-use of the Quintette Mine in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.

Outside of work, Heather enjoys exploring all that the Okanagan has to offer. She can be found hiking, spending time with friends and family, or tending to her plants. Heather can often be caught sharing nature facts with anyone who is keen to listen.
