Cara believes every building tells a story of history, community, and culture. For her, rehabilitating historic buildings is about continuing that narrative with respect for the past and vision for the future. Applying more than 20 years of experience, she navigates policies, manages collaboration with relevant parties, and transforms client aspirations into reality.
From landmark restorations to adaptive reuse, Cara works closely with clients to understand their goals, build and lead project teams, and guide projects from planning through completion. One of her most memorable projects involved the adaptive reuse of an 1890s Romanesque Revival building in the US Rust Belt. The project uncovered the building's original façade from beneath a mid-20th-century exterior renovation. Restoring its historic character transformed this former office building into a mixed-use residential development that anchors ongoing renewal of the city’s downtown. Passionate about community engagement, Cara has also served on preservation commissions and non-profits, fostering dialogue about the possibilities of preservation.
Outside of the office when she isn’t managing family responsibilities, you will find her checking out the latest art exhibit, revisiting a favorite work of fiction, or experimenting with a new recipe for dinner.
