As a marine and freshwater ecologist and a member of our dive team, Mike combines field surveying activities with the preparation of aquatic ecology assessments and reports. He’s particularly interested in coral reef biology and ecology, and his knowledge extends to the fringing systems of mangrove and seagrass ecosystems. He also has experience in freshwater environments, where he’s taken part in a range of monitoring campaigns.
Having worked in both Australia and the UK, Mike has been involved in projects addressing coastal erosion, flooding issues, and the maintenance of flood defense assets. He’s also developed a scalable risk management framework to simplify the maintenance of marine wharves and structures. For Mike, one of the best parts of his job is the variety, and the opportunity to work with enthusiastic and knowledgeable people. And when a day at the “office” means spending time underwater while helping to protect an endangered species, the work feels especially rewarding.
Outside of work, Mike enjoys cooking and spending his weekends outdoors, making the most of his time in nature.
