Alistair’s focus is on stormwater and river management—leading projects for councils and government agencies that help them to understand, plan for, and implement solutions to manage flood risk. His extensive experience in erosion protection, flood control schemes, and engineering projects has broadened to include urban stormwater projects and related infrastructure, such as bridges. Coupled with an ability to make connections between people, projects and principles means that when he leads water sensitive urban design projects, he can bring together social, environmental, cultural, and utility values.
Working in the stormwater and rivers space, Alistair and his team plan, design, and build assets for an event that may not occur for decades or longer, so he’s rewarded when he sees an asset performing as it’s designed to do in an extreme natural event. The Richmond Stormwater Upgrade project brings together all the things Alistair likes about his role. It’s a large, strategically significant flood protection project with complex interactions between planning, urban development, recreational, environmental, transportation, and stormwater objectives. The project also provides a variety of infrastructure types, and a diverse range of stakeholders.
Outside of work? Alistair spends time with family, and enjoys mountain biking, playing golf, and following Formula 1 racing.
