Kelly Swindle
Senior Marine Biologist
Inspired by a lifelong fascination with the underwater world, Kelly pursued a career in marine biology to better understand and protect ocean ecosystems. She approaches her work with a focus on science-based conservation and practical environmental solutions.
Specializing in environmental permitting and compliance for complex coastal and marine projects, Kelly has deep expertise in federal, state, and local regulatory frameworks. She’s led and supported multidisciplinary teams on infrastructure and restoration projects and guided clients through permitting strategies while avoiding, reducing, and mitigating environmental impacts.
Kelly’s work spans field and technical leadership, with a particular emphasis on emerging tools such as environmental DNA (eDNA) to inform decision-making. She played a key role in the collection of eDNA during the USS Monitor mission, collaborating with partners to collect and analyze genetic material from the surrounding waters to understand species presence and site ecology at this nationally significant cultural resource.
When she isn’t working in the marine world, you’ll still find Kelly exploring tide pools along the coast and enjoying hiking in the mountains of Washington.
