Uthaya is a senior principal engineer with a wide range of design and construction experience in geotechnical engineering, foundation design, and seismic design. He’s worked on numerous civil projects including bridges, highways, rapid transit projects, high-rise buildings, and water infrastructure. In addition to consulting work, Uthaya is actively involved in research on geotechnical earthquake engineering, soil liquefaction, pile foundations, and construction on soft soil sites.
He’s been the lead geotechnical engineer for highway bridge projects in British Columbia, and he’s a contributing author on the “Structural Design of Wastewater Treatment Plants – Seed Document,” to be published by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA Group) in 2018. This is in addition to other publications and lecture engagements that he’s been involved in for over a decade.
Outside of work, Uthaya served the Vancouver Geotechnical Society as secretary and chairman, and he was the Vancouver regional director for the Canadian Geotechnical Society for two years.
