Aquinas College Chapel Alterations

Aquinas College Chapel was built in the 1960s within the grounds of the South Perth school. Heritage-listed in 1989, the college wished to refurbish the building, which involved demolition and replacement of the main support columns with a new structural system, while concurrently expanding the mezzanine area. They asked Stantec for assistance with structural, electrical and A/V designs that would be sensitive to the aesthetic and architectural features of the chapel building.

Following restoration of the feature stained-glass windows, these were carefully relocated within the building and we also designed a new chapel roof. The original pendant lights were refurbished in addition to the installation of new lamps and modern LED lighting, as well as upgrading and replacing outdated electrical equipment.

Our considerate renovation of the beautiful Aquinas Chapel building allows it to be enjoyed by the College’s staff and students for years to come. Recognising the quality historic project, it has received three awards for excellence in construction and the sensitive renovation of this State Registered Heritage Place.
