Beenyup Advanced Water Recycling Plant - Technical and Operational Reviews

The Beenyup Advanced Water Recycling Plant (AWRP) is a groundwater replenishment scheme located in Perth’s northern suburbs. Since 2017, it has been recharging the city’s aquifers by injecting up to 28 billion litres (7 billion gallons) of recycled water into groundwater supplies annually, producing recycled water for indirect potable reuse from secondary effluent.

Water Corporation engaged us in 2008 as the provider of independent engineering services for the delivery phase of the groundwater replenishment trial. Our involvement then transitioned through to our current engagement to provide technical and operational review services for the AWRP Stages 1 and 2 operations.

We conduct monthly reviews of critical control point reports, plant performance, and change management documentation. Our team also conducts a biannual review on site that focuses on operational performance, compliance with process control tables, and review of any incidents. This work also focuses on the ongoing optimization and defect management requirements to help the plant meet production targets.

Currently, the plant provides a climate-independent water source to boost drinking water supplies in Perth. It serves the rapidly developing northern suburbs and treats up to 135 million litres (36 million gallons) of wastewater per day.
