Just in time for West Footscray
When it comes to home improvement and outdoor living you might be familiar with Bunnings stores across Australia, but did you know that we’ve worked on over 200 of them? Our multidiscipline teams have provided structural, civil, and hydraulic engineering, survey, and planning services for Bunnings, including both new warehouses and extensions and updates to existing stores.
Each site can present its own set of challenges that need solutions, and a new warehouse in West Footscray provided a timely opportunity—we designed and constructed the new 14,500 square metre Bunnings warehouse in a triangular shape to fit the Geelong Road site and kept the heritage façade with the clock tower from the old Dimmeys building as part of the new structure. How did we do it? A steel-braced frame that restrains the new concrete façade helps stabilize the heritage clock tower and enables repair and refurbishment of the clock.
With the heritage façade still in place, the new building preserves an old connection to the site’s heritage in the community, while reinvigorating the site into a busy and accessible centre for trades people and home renovators alike.
