Developing funding applications for community-building projects

Western Sydney is home to the fastest growing population in Australia. Enhancing the livability of communities across the region is a priority for local councils. To achieve this, the AUD$2 billion ($1.3 billion) Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants program (WestInvest) provides funding for transformational community infrastructure projects in the region.

Camden City Council engaged us to craft and manage several business case submissions through WestInvest’s application process. For each application, we set out a compelling vision with clear objectives and evidence demonstrating how targeted investment will improve people’s livelihoods in newly established communities.

Coordinating the fund applications required extensive client engagement to build robust, persuasive, and captivating applications. In doing so, we prepared socioeconomic baselines, theory of change logic maps, and economic impact assessments. Given the complexity of estimating the impact of environmental, active travel, sports, and community infrastructure, a bespoke economic impact model was developed.

As a result of our work, Camden City Council secured AUD$69.1 million ($45.9 million) from the fund across six community-building
