Sympathetically-restored historic Perth landmark attracts accolades and a new purpose

COMO The Treasury Hotel

Perth’s Treasury Buildings are historically significant; built on the site of the founding of the city in 1829 and occupied by the WA Premier during the 1920’s, they lay vacant for 20+ years. The heritage buildings have been sensitively refurbished and developed into a 5 Star hotel with basement, ground and 4 upper levels to provide bedrooms, meeting and function rooms, retail, beauty treatment, bars and kitchens. Stantec’s sustainability team were consulted to consider the heritage nature of the project, particularly the facade.

Our sustainability approach recognised both the modifiable elements and those that were not, which restricted the available energy and thermal efficiency options. Liaising closely with the Heritage Architect – Palassis, we identified a solution which included innovative, custom-made double-glazed units consisting of composite timber and aluminium frames.

Stantec’s solution preserves the aesthetic features of the architectural façade and provides acoustic, energy and thermal benefits. The long-empty buildings have been revitalised for future generations of the community to enjoy, while attracting multiple awards for sympathetic restoration.
