Eagle Farm Racecourse Outdoor Lighting

The Brisbane Racing Club (BRC) underwent a major renovation to the Eagle Farm Racecourse infield to facilitate ongoing training and race day operations. The redesign required an outdoor lighting scheme to complement the site’s masterplan to become a premier thoroughbred racing and training facility.

Stantec designed the scheme to include outdoor lighting for a new horse stable complex, the redeveloped training track, vehicle and pedestrian access tunnels, and car parking facilities. The outdoor lighting scheme for the pathways, carparks, and stable complex was designed to provide sufficient lighting for the safe movement of the public, trucks, cars, and horses during training and race day events. The luminaires primarily consisted of outdoor rated LED pole mounted fixtures. The training track facility lighting system utilized high output LED sports flood lights with glare control mounted to poles taller than 15 metres.

The design of this system involved careful consideration of surrounding residential properties to minimize spill and obtrusive light to these premises with diligent aiming and selection of the fixtures. Altogether, safe levels of lighting were installed to allow for safe transport of horses particularly in early, low light conditions.
