Stantec was selected by a major bank client to fulfil the role as independent peer reviewer and commissioning agent for two new 2MW data centres. The main aims of the brief were seamless reliability to stringent Tier 3 standards, minimal energy waste and maximum efficiency, plus ensuring that maintainability of each data centre is straightforward and cost effective.
The peer review role gives comfort that the brief has been thoroughly understood, that appropriate options have been considered in reaching a design solution and that risk to business operations has been limited. To this end, our activities included liaising with authorities to ensure the supply of high energy could be achieved. We reviewed embedded generation options to ensure the relevant requirements were adopted. We also recommended high-efficiency cooling system technology to achieve low annualized Power Usage Effectiveness.
Attending factory and site testing to escalate design issues or defects as they arose right through to commissioning, our consultants confirmed Tier 3 compliance of the design.
