Giving shoppers a grounded skydiving experience

iFLY indoor skydiving facilities allow people to ‘fly’ without being 18,000 feet above earth. So, we were excited to get the chance to build one in Brisbane and expand the global phenomenon.

Stantec Arizona had the Master Services Agreement with iFLY and our global reach meant they could expand in Australia by using our local experts.

Implementing a US design in an Australian environment was challenging, while building on the site of an existing shopping centre complicated the infrastructure connections and council consents.

With extensive collaboration between our US colleagues and the contractor, a little Aussie ingenuity, and some help from our friends in Pune, Arizona and Sydney we got the building up in 12 weeks.

We provided project and design management and construction support through to completion of commissioning and handover of the three-storey building. Architectural, structural, civil and landscaping design was included, and all building services works comprised electrical, mechanical, hydraulics and fire.

The vertical wind tunnel has powerful axial fans capable of wind speeds of 250 kilometres per hour, generated from above then channelled down the sides of the tunnel, underneath the flight chamber and then up, lifting flyers into the air.
