Mandalong Mine Stockpile Conveyor

When Centennial Coal wanted to increase product output from their Mandalong Mine and provide an alternative out-loading system using road haulage, we were brought in to complete the civil and structural engineering design as well as the shop fabrication drawings for a portion of the upgrade.

Our scope included a 75-metre (246-foot) high cantilevered stockpile conveyor, braced tower, two trestles, and 200-metres (656 feet) of elevated gantries from the surge bin. We used SpaceGass structural engineering analysis and design software for structural modelling and optimisation, and the fabrication drawings were produced using ProSteel.

Because the stockpile conveyor implementation required a planned erection sequence with multiple cranes (due to the incline in the main trestle), this process had to be carefully thought out in our design. Our ability to undertake the design, drafting, and detailing as one package resulted in significant time and cost savings for the client and a greater delivery quality—as there was no third-party to consider throughout the works.

Following this, our team added further value by supporting the optimisation of the site erection procedures, streamlining the works, and identifying ways to save time and capital cost expenditure without compromising the quality of the project. The final result? Improved capacity and additional assets that led to production increases for Mandalong Mine.
